Rhona Vinokur explores the
nuances of colour, usually working within the
confines of a limited palette. She enhances and
sensualizes that palette through her use of various
textures to capture light and shadow in her abstract
and semi-abstract canvasses. She uses the language
of colour, light and space which interact to create
the moods and the mysteries, the chaos and the
order of the mind. Applying mixed media in a free-form
technique, she spontaneously works the materials
until the desired images emerge. Vinokur’s
work is intuitive, not pre-planned at all, and
when she applies paint to canvas, it is her subconscious
that is guiding her hands.
“I usually play jazz, very loudly, when
I paint.” Vinokur says. “This helps
me to enter what I like to call ‘the Zone’.
In ‘the Zone’, everything else disappears
and it is just me, the rhythm of the music, and
the canvas. It’s a great place to be!”
Vinokur’s paintings have been displayed
at solo and group exhibits, art fairs, galleries,
libraries, and are included in private and corporate
collections across Canada and in the United States.
